Your source for Green  Weddings In Oregon

So what exactly is a green wedding?

It's your wedding using vendors who employ earth friendly practices in their business, such as fair trade practices, organically produced food, recycling, energy consumption awareness and utilizing renewable resources.

Why does it matter?

Because you realize that there is a better way to celebrate your marriage; good for you, good for the earth, and good for the future.

We at Portland Green Weddings are committed to reducing the imprint a wedding makes on the earth. By creating awareness and partnering with like- minded industry professionals, we offer our  Brides and Grooms solutions and alternatives to the usual wedding waste.

Think about a wedding . . .

It begins with a profound question, a positive commitment and then it starts to take on a life of it's own. A ceremony location is selected, reception dates secured. "Save the date cards" mailed, formal invitations sent. The mad rush for shoes and "the dress." A florist and caterer lined up. Then favors, decorations, gifts, transportation, honeymoon plans made . . .

What if you thought about a green imprint ?

Would you see the wedding as a whole rather than a check-list? Could the food be from farms withinn a hundred mile radius? What about antique wedding rings, a local designer silk wedding dress, serving locally produced food and wines ?Could flowers be used from local growers? Could favors be living plants ? Could you purchase carbon offsets, plant some trees or ask for these gifts to the earth  as wedding presents? www.friendsoftrees.org

So what is our company doing to "be green"?

Historical Church Wedding Officiants, parent company of Portlandgreenweddings.com , provides wedding officiants and ministers in the Mount Hood area and now in Portland. We realized that we were doing a lot of "green things" already:

1)Initially refer the officate/minister that is closest geographically to the ceremony venue.

2)Do most of our ceremony writing electronically.

3)Ask if you'd prefer our info packet sent via e-mail or printed material mailed.

4)Try to "stack" our meetings with our Brides and Grooms at one location over the course of several hours or invite them to meet with us after a ceremony so we only travel once or in lieu, offer a conference call.

  5) Seek out and support like- minded properties and vendors to network and work with.

We felt a call to be a disseminator of information by offering an alternative wedding resource in our industry.  We know that by organizing local information for you as you plan your wedding, you can make simple, informed choices. With this exciting launch on Earth Day, we are building this company to showcase green ideas and  are inviting others to join us .

Realizing that this is only the beginning, we are also open to new ideas . . .do share your green wedding ideas with us!
